INTRODUCTION

One of the most important things you will learn in this course is how different systems work together to make automation possible. To do this, you will partially assemble a mini "machine," complete with a conveyor belt and robot. As you assemble this machine, you will learn a little about common components and systems that make up many manufacturing machines.

To learn about these components and systems, you will be doing work on the Basic Automation Trainer. The video below will show you how the Basic Automation Trainer works

To do this, you will be doing some labs on the Basic Automation Trainer. Watch the videos below to gain an understanding of the parts and the function of the trainer. In the labs that follow, you will be assembling parts of the trainer in order to build a completed system for the final lab.

As described in the video, there are several systems that you may encounter in an automated system:

Electrical systems
Motor control systems
Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Robotic systems
Programmable Logic Controls (PLC)
Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)

INSTRUCTIONS

Talk to an instructor to get a Basic Automation Trainer board.
Make sure that it is properly disassembled.
Label your trainer by writing your name on a piece of masking tape and placing it on the edge of the conveyor.
