INTRODUCTION
Now that you are comfortable with quickly reading markings on a measuring tape or ruler, let's add some more skills to your toolbelt. Using a measuring tape is probably not part of the official operator or maintenance technician job description, but you will more than likely have to use them regularly during your career. To that end, here are some informative videos showing how to read a measuring tape and how to handle one.
Even if you know how to use a tape measure already, I would recommend watching them, as they contain several tips you may not know unless you've been working with tape measures for a long time. The first video listed was referenced on the last assignment. Please watch the parts of the video you didn't see before.
Another common tool used for measuring and marking lengths and angles is a measuring square. We will use a combination square (a type of measurement square) in the labs at the end of this module. You'll learn more about those at that time.
